Highlights / General details
Founded some 103 years ago, at the end of the nineteenth century, Mosqueiro Island is now essentially a resort town that offers various leisure options: a paradise island with beaches where the waves make you think that you are on the Atlantic, and a favourite beach town of the well-to-do during the holiday periods. Some beautiful chalets built as summer residences lend the island a certain charm, despite thegradual incursion of more modern architecture.
On arrival at the island you board a local wooden fishing boat for a tour through its narrow creeks, where you can see local people going about their ever day lives. After around one hour on the boat, you disembark at a pier to walk an ecological trail through the dense jungle, seeing wildlife such as monkeys, snakes, sloths, birds and spiders. Lunch (NB: drinks are not included) is then served in a rustic restaurant on the riverbank. After lunch you reboard the boat for the trip back to the pier, where you take a vehicle back to Belém. On the way you’ll visit one of the Amazon Delta’s most beautiful freshwater beaches, where you can go for a swim.
