Highlights / General details
The Masaya Volcano National Park is located in a huge ancient caldera of 54km² that includes two volcanoes and five craters. They are feared by both the indigenous people and the Spanish conquerors. The Spanish baptized the active volcano "La Boca del Infierno" or "The Mouth of Hell". Visitors can peek over the edge at the Masaya Volcano, and look into the impressive crater, which is continuously emitting smoke and sulfur gases. From this central crater it is possible to start hiking to other craters or viewpoints.
The night tour begins at sunset, we will see the return of the parakeets to their nests in the walls of the active crater. Then we visit the lava caves where we are going to walk in to see thounsands of bats. After this massive departure, we will visit the last look out to see the blaze of the lava.
